We'd been trying to get together for a ride for a long time, and well, since Miguel starts a "real job" next week, we figured we'd better get to it.
Miguel came down on Tuesday afternoon, and we spent the evening teasing the trout on the Arkansas River with faux flies. The fishing wasn't great, but it was a good time on the water. Even saw a huge rattlesnake.
Wednesday dawned cold and clear, so we took our time getting ready, and Miguel, Tami and I headed over to Patio Pancake for some greasy-spoon breakfast. Mmmmm...
After choking that down, me and Miguel droned up Hwy 50 to Monarch Pass.
Quick break at the top:
From the parking lot there, we jumped onto the Crest Trail. I haven't ridden this section for years- just too many angry mountain bikers most days. But this is late season, on a Wednesday- only a few people were out to get glares from.
Thanks to the Mountain Bikers, this section of trail is about as smooth as you're likely to find in this area.
