We took this trip back in August for my B-day. Rule One for me is to do something, as long as it's with bikes. We had just bought a 2000 Tiger and were eager to see what it's all about.
Aug 14 2010
We leave the house at 1:00 in the afternoon, late start but had to work for a half day, It's 112 degrees, but that's not going to stop us.
To get this RR going we made camp about 8 miles east of the New Mexico border on the 60 near Red Hill.
Not very glamorous, but it works for the night. It started to rain abit through the night and there were a few cars that had pulled in, but a good nights rest after the heat beat us up yesterday.
Were greeted with a nice sunrise in the morning.
First day in New Mexico we went past the VLA Telescope Observatory and stopped to take a look.
Thinking there's more to it than what there saying.
Onward to Roswell.
Big storm in Roswell the first night, so glad we got a room. Next morning we talked to a few locals and they were telling us that they had never heard anything like it before. It had kept us up most of the night.
But we are hell bent to find adventure.
So we vist the museum.
Cheryl finds a couple of friend
Still not feeling the adventure here, and the sky looked pretty good we decided to get moving. Back up the 380 through Capitan and Lincoln.
As luck would have it, We must be on the right road.
But I think Katie (the tiger) might prefer off-road.
Shortly after leaving Lincoln the clouds moved in and the rain gear came out
At one point we were following a truck pulling a trailer through the twisty mountain road, the rain was coming down so hard we couldn't make out the truck which was only 20 yrds in front of us. So for about 30 mins it was a slow white knuckle ride, not knowing were the road was or for that matter, who was behind us.
Made it to San Antonio and were given some pretty good directions from some locals who had stopped at the gas station for the lunch.
And were off down FR225
Which brought us to a 2nd night camping. Springtime campground.
Nice little garage for Katie
I don't think I slept an hour last night.
