They don't put out as much power as a lead acid battery at first, but they self heat after each starting pulse and get stronger after each cranking attempt. I haven't tried starting my bike below 32 but in the range of 35 +/- it took me 3 starting pulses to fire my F650GS.

EDIT: It was also at 11,000 feet, so the motor was also gasping for air!
