Hopefully you haven't chopped to much of the brake tang off. What I would do is space the hub so the spokes clear the tang and build the wheel but dish it ( spokes on tang side are straighter, other side more angle from hub) so the rim is centered in the forks. Just like how bicycle rear wheels are done. Your talking a very small amount here.
