Clarence River Ride Weekend (2)
Sunday was clear & still, so we decided to attack the Clarence. We understood that this had opened at 12.00 noon Saturday. We filled at Hamner (well at least Howie did), then cruised to the Clarence entrance.
Looking back towards Kaikoura after the initial climb.
The Clarence is in some amazingly steep high country. You just keep climbing up switchbacks. No room for error on some portions.
When you get to the other side, you need to follow the river bed & do a lot of fording..
Huge fun. The interior has its own micro climate & is very hot. The land is leasehold & there is a farm down by teh river.
Came out of Clarence about 4.50pm (closes at 5.00pm), & scarpered off to Hamner to gas up, then across to Reefton (to catch up with Mark S) for the next 2 nights.
