I just took a look at your front sprocket it looks a little bit worn befor you assamble a new chain, you should change the sprocket too. You get them from Talon in Britain. (And don't forget the security plate).
To your positioning problem, I 'am not very sure but Bultaco's had already very early a rubber tube between the intake and the carburator mounted,
maybe your intake is a very good "add - on" from any virtuous machanic.
My Sherpa has this gooseneck type intake that allows the carb to be mounted higher, with a rubber tube between and upright too.
But as already stated I 'am more keen on later Bultaco models, from the begiining 70's to the end.
