HS#11....Sand Slinger Legacy HS

I really need to do these closer to when the race happened..

This race report takes us to Ona,Fl and the hosting club is the Sarasota Area Dirt Riders Assoc. (SADRA) The property is a mix sand, woods, peat bogs, and a few creek crossings. Sat loop was 7.5 miles and Sunday 10.5. There were some areas of concern after Sunday's practice lap but the club was able to reroute quickly.
Haley race went well. She was 4 minutes slower than the leader(Zoe) the first lap and 5 the next, but she's racing the course and working the whole time. With 3 more years in this class she is excited about getting better. Since this race we've pulled arrows on an Enduro course, took some instruction at Sunshine mx track and rode many hours at Croom so stuff is starting to stick and making the honor roll for the first time this quarter takes some pressure off! She made the comment she saw Glenn on the course so was quick to stand up for the photo..ha!

After the practice lap I was really looking forward to this course. There were some open areas I was looking forward to letting the 300 run and the track was a great mix of things I liked. I even parked my bike next to Dave Davis(#48) in the hopes I could try and get a tow off of him into the first corner..ha!
The horn blew and I made my first mistake. As I threw my leg over the seat to give it a kick I was looking forward at the same time. Haley (who was holding my bike) was nice enough to tell me that's why I didn't get a good stroke on the kick starter and why it took 2 kicks to get going...thanks honey: I'm about 7th/8th going into the first corner and played follow the leader the first mile. No where real easy to pass, but I'm finally able to take a tighter inside line on a sweeping corner and make a pass on 20C so I'm up a spot.

Just as we head out on to a high speed area I have a strange sensation. My bike had turned into a rocking horse, and i can't figure out why. After pulling over, it's quite obvious..

That's the worse feeling watching everyone stream by as you sit there. I went back and watched the rest of the race from a different perspective...the sidelines. It could have been worse ..I could have broke and not the bike. I'm now armed with a new sub-frame, a Weight Watchers points calculator, and the feeling I've got some unfinished business...see you in Okeechobee!
