Hampshire County - Oriskany Sand

Located on Rt 50, about 2 miles west of Romney. Nowhere to pull off safely, but I could see any approaching traffic in time to move.

Not much to report about Oriskany Sand except it is popular with the oil & gas exploration going on all over the state. Apparently, this type of sand is capable of holding quite a bit of the stuff.

Here is a lengthy article written about the Oriskany Sand in Pennsylvania, which certainly carries over to West Virginia.

Historical Marker located on Rt 50, 2 miles west of Romney. They trees were blocking any possible view of nearby rock formations.
