Also, knowing the condition of the engine, transmission, etc, will allow you to predict and plan for future expense. Some of these things take time, in which case you won't find yourself next spring when bike fever hits hoping the (********) comes back soon so you can get the bike back together and ride it.
Everything is most likely fine on the bike, but why not test ride it and know for sure?
