No doubt. With the 4 speed, i doubt the gearing of the Beetle form that era was much different then more modern vehicles, but i could be wrong.
Aerodynamics? I would tend to believe the Beetle has several times more frontal area. The overall drag may be close to the same, depending on the riders roundness and aerodynamics. But weight is also a great factor since acceleration is a concern.
