I think I stumbled on the original thread on TT, because I was searching for info on using a 650L head on an XL600R.... I know bassackwards. But I was just keeping my options open, since my frame/suspension is already modified, so carb placement isn't an issue. Going to follow your lead and start a thread over here, seeing more interest.

Hey, welcome to the XL600R world!
It will work in reverse as well. I built a 2000 plated XR600 using an '84 XL600 bottom end, XR650L cylinder and the 2000 XR600 head. The original engine was blown up; the only things usable were the head, transmission and outer engine covers. The XR600 and XR650L heads are the same with one important difference (besides the air injector holes) the 650L has a larger combustion chamber than the 600.
