The /5 clamp actually has less holes to fill than the /6 clamp do to the steering dampner set up (I think).

I know there are people making these and that's much easier of a route but IMHO the homemade route can be made to have more of a "stock" appearance.

Not that it's stock, but less of a "stealth fighter" look to it.
That's a hoss of a different color then.
Having done the conversion once on a custom S I built a long time ago, Now I just buy the San Jose upper triple clamp and be done with it.
Bang for the buck, My time is worth a lot more than the cost of theirs.
There's actually a fair amount of machine work that needs to be done, and done correctly.
