The next morning we got to Ulan Ude pretty early. We didnít stop in town, but we went south of there about 20km to a big Buddhist datsan (monestary). I went there in 06, & had been wanting to go visit again, plus I knew Poly would like it.
Its right off the main road to Mongolia (so I know the road well)
Theres even a famous monk here who has been in a trance for 50 years!
(he may be dead, after he has been sitting for 50 years, it would be hard to tell)
They have a small market/gift shop out front
Prayer wheels are everywhere. You spin them clockwise as you walk around them
Many cabins that the monks build to live in, as well as a few families that must work here.
