I used to live in Central OR and just a few miles east of town it looked very much the same. Even knew Wachs (who posted the Battle Mt pics). You do find lots of cool stuff out in what appears to be total nothing-ness. I always found the views from atop a butte or pass well worth the effort it took to get there. It does clear your head and unwind the mind.
