Rigren, many have done this ride on the KLR it can easily be done on that bike. On the other hand the 250XT could do it too. My experience is less is more on the dirt but either bike can be used. I think it depends on what you like the best and how you plan to get to the starting point and then back home again. If you plan on riding pavement by all means use the KLR. Otherwise no problem with either bike. Hope that helps. This is a great ride and I really enjoyed it. I'm sure you will too.
