We roll out of our cacoons to the 34deg air... I like this lean-to deal. Havta get a longer pc so it wraps under me too.
Nomads in the park.....
Esther makes oatmeal, but.. I'm craving some eggs an meat sooo we decide to meet up somewhere down the road and I'm gone.
I find this homestyle joint just on the East side of town...
It's pretty empty when I roll in but soon fills. Quaker/Shaker style dress... The food is Great and near the end I stike up convo with multiple families.
One particular fellow says he'
s heading to Alasks in two weeks sooo I ask.... work or play? He says work... He's a preacher going up to the remoter regions to convert the natives.
Oooh boy this is a sore spot for me... BUT I let it go and casually say "we're in Mormon country 'round here eh." He responds "Yup I got my work cut out for me" aaah man really. I say "hmmmm well that's one of the things I find a problem with in organized religion! Everyone saying it's my way or the highway!" So we go on about this for a while kinda casually and then as we both pay we take the convo outside. It's obyiously a contradiction in understanding that we share... As I pull out a new book by Deepak Chopra called "The Third Jesus" I say here I'll give this to you as it's highly rated by some biblical scholars and really gets to the meaning of alot of his teachings... he says "I know Jesus...I've got stuff to do" and walks away.
I'm thinking.. hmm here I am an engaged audience and co-speaker in a topic he is highly involved in and he does'nt want to continue. We could have continued sharing views and both of us may have learned something new... anyway.
I let it slide and Dave and his kids come out who I met inside and their excited about Desiree' sooo I ask "hey ya wanna get up on her for a picture?" oooh yes.
Nolan in the yellow and Legend in the blue... they have another brother Jaiden and a sister Kiaree...
Back on the Lonliest Highway and on toward Beaver...
Heading toward Ely I see the flashing blues of a couple bikers getting written up.... Nevada's being a tough A** lately eh?
Just west of Ely... formerly the Worlds largest open pit mine.
This dirt road (Osceola RD) on the right is an Excellent route up threw Osceola that pops out back onto Hwy 50 up on the pass, it's just north of the Great Basin National Park... I took it a couple years ago but don't feel it today... In a bit of a rush to get to Moab ya see.
Yea these Nevada Utah valleys are super WINDY!
And as I look back so does he...
Bad pic but.... MAN thats ALOT of Antlers!!!
Just across before the Utah line I turn off Southeast in baker on Hwy 487 to 21 ... figure I'll go this route.
I see these Ol' Corrals with round-up shack and decide to pull in for a break...
As I pull back
out onto the Hwy I see this... Reaallly??
Wasta money... for lack of confidence in common sense!
I think to myself..... there's gotta be better places to tour than this right? But here I am too:/
Another lush valley in the Dessert...
After some fuel I ask for a good mom and pop diner... I'm told Arshel's, North end of town.
For some reason I decide to see where Esther might be tho if she's riding she won't get my txt... Here she's right in Beaver LOL.
I stear her toward Arshel's and we get some goood vittles.
Funny though I ride a good bit faster than Esther does.... My BS'ing at all the stops gives her time to cover as much ground in a day as me LOL, kinda ironic.
Jane our Waitress on the left and Colleen the cook on the right... Two awesome girls!!! Really Great Food and Energy!
Esther leaves about 15min ahead of me again as I stay to talk.... then it's Hwy 153 through the Fishlake National Forest... Beautiful!!!
These rocky canyons between Utah valleys hide some SPECTACULAR bike and quad trails!
I get to this construction zone just minutes after the last escort car... sooo it's a 15min nap waiting for the next round... and giving Esther a bigger lead.
Aaah what a change from the Dessert floor....
I watch interesting shapes transform in the clouds...
We're up around 10,000ft now and the road goes to dirt.. slightly loose sooo I know Esther is/was probably puckered up pretty good. I look West into a rainbow.
High meadows and lotsa Mulies...
Cowboy chasing a calf... I shoulda turned back to help.
Down here in Junction I catch her.... she had some struggles on that loose rocky road but didn't go down and learned alot! Soo we keep on heading East and I stay closer to her now. We add layers for nightfall and I change outta my tinted shades to clear lense glasses too.
Here in Escalante I am a good 20min ahead of her and go out onto the road to flag her in for some chow in a Rustic Lodge on the edge of town where I get some Excellent fresh Trout. Turns out that tables on both sides of us are Foreigners soo Esther gets to speak Dutch to all of them... I'm sitting there feeling pretty unilingual/uneducated LOL.
Good stories for sure then A SUPER fun twistie ride up the Canyon on Hwy 12 through Grand Staircase Escalante National monument and Capital Reef National Park... to dark for pictures folks but... WHAT A RIDE!
On a safety note... deer all along the road
and you should proceed with more caution than I used!
This is also where I stopped to teach Esther how to carry more speed through the turns. I rode standing for MANY miles to show her that she should be easily able to keep up in the turns sitting and leaning.
As it got darker it got WINDIER and as we hit I-70 north of the Hollow Mountain fuel stop we bee lined it to Green River and decided to hole up for the night and roll into Moab along the Green River in the morning....
Is it just me.... or do you see a Womans breast....
