I hear you on the complex "gizmos" versus the simple & rugged reliability of an air cooled big bore! I have an XR650L and can relate, I love my bike and have had no problems at all! (I ruggedized it too!)

Your XR600 is a great bike and will be a lot of fun where you're going!

Having said that, I can see owning a street legal DI 2 smoke, that would be fun as hell!
