Yeah, I was surprised it broke without any impact damage, and I would be the first to admit if I had binned it on that side. Looking at the broken surface, it was just classic fatigue propagation in brittle aluminium.

As my old manager said when I was on the design team of the Land Rover LCV2 (extruded aluminium concept car) ...."If we lived in an aluminium world, steel would look like a wonderful material".
