It helps to raise the back a bit to match the fork length and a lot more choice of off road tires.
A friend of mine did it with his R100gs and the bike handles perfect.
I just ran a quote with Woody's to "superlace" up an excel 18"x2.5" rim onto my stock rear R100GS hub and he warned me to make sure that there wouldn't be clearance issues because the customers that have requested them went back to 17s. However, the example he quoted
(incidentally, the same one Daithi showed by Stephen Botcher) was a paralever to monolever conversion. Anyway, Prutser, are you absolutely certain that a standard, center laced 18x2.5 will fit on the back of my bike? I guess I need to take a look and see just how much room is back there, bike's been down for a bit and I've been ignoring her.
