Not familiar with 950/R/S bikes (non ABS models) but in a standard 990 with ABS you just remove the bolt that attachs the sensor and cut the zip ties to take the cable off. No need to remove anything, you'll figure it out as soon as you take a look down there.
The cable, however, plugs into the ABS button so you have to remove the headlight.
One beer job if you're a fast drinker.
