keep an eye on the alternator brushes.... one of them wears more quickly than the other, and when it's done it can end a nice trip
Happened to me on a road trip in '77 in northern California.
Bike started running on one cylinder unless I turned off the headlight....then all the time....would die when I hit a turn signal.
I wasn't much of a diagnostician and didn't realize the battery was no longer being charged, and the bike was running off the battery - until I got a good long way away from any town....and it died completely.
