Great report. My brother and I shared a similar route this past summer as well. We camped at Clear Lake, it was gorgeous (I can post pics if you wanna see it but don't want to muddy your thread up). We had marmots across the lake making noise all night, and a fox visited our campsite in the morning... he got so close we could have petted him if we wanted to. Really really cool.
With that said, in a week, we camped only twice. Next time we will not bring the camping gear. The less weight the better while riding, and the mom and pop motels we stayed at turned out to be highlights of the trip, we met some really interesting people at them. It was more costly, yes, but it sure was nice to have a hot shower and dinner at the end of a long day in the saddle. To each his own though, I get the camping thing too. I just hate breaking down camp every morning. Especially if everything is wet. Blah.
