There was about 15 to 20 millimeters between the tire and the swing arm. I did not think that I could safely put rally studs into that tire without having clearance issues.
However, since that time, my chain has stretched considerably (usually falling off in the middle of a ride with Cliff) and there is considerably more room. Perhaps you could use an old worn out chain for the inspection for the road license?
I'll get a picture of the clearance for you and Shercoman when the daylight comes back.
