That's our wonderful laws. A few years ago, in Canada anyway, the 12GS's had a recall because the front signals were something stupid like 2 mm too close together. BMW went overboard to the point you could barely get enough loose wire to stretch into the new stalks. Might be the US law and us Canucks just follow big brother.
Makes sense then if they are simply fulfilling market-specific regulations like the red/amber side reflectors the rest of the world misses out... I'm curious to see the NA versions of the optional LED indicators which are lower profile in the EU than the incandescent ones... if they're available in the NA market - BMW Canada seems to be 7 months behind schedule on updating the F800GS page on their website... shame on them!
