Theoretically with a 112-link chain you'll have more even chain/sprocket wear with 47/15 than with 44/14 since the same tooth doesn't hit the chain in the same spot as frequently.

Regarding the VaporTech -- I've NEVER had an issue with moisture from rain / splashing water. That said, I've never drowned the bike.
