I would say that the bash plates worth having you will need to remove. Most - if not all come off in a matter minutes.
I take it as a good time to check out the condition of the plate and bolts. The circle of GS'rs that I ride with use the Black Dog Cycle
plate. It and Mod
would be my recommended form the coverage and build quality and material. That said, I am currently running the Ricochet plate which has held up well. It doesn't have the same coverage as the two mentioned above but when I was on a tight budget it fit the bill. Looking at some the more adventurous rides I have planed in the future I will be going to a MOD or BDC plate.
Important thing to note is compatibility with crash bars.
