thanks for the advice, it's only had 5 tanks of fuel through it so far, it was full of an unknown fuel when I picked it up from the dealer. and I have only run it on Shell V-Power.

I spoke to the dealer mechanic and he said hard starting is a symptom of off-spec valve clearances.
So I checked them, 1 was in the middle of spec and the other 3 were on the tight limit of spec, so I subtracted .05mm from each of those valves.

all of which made no difference to the difficulty in starting, I am of the belief that it is ,as you say a fueling issue, it feels lean to me.
