it's best to quickly move, after Zihuatenjo (Ixtapa), on the main road (200) south to Oaxaca state during the day, blowing by Alcupulco as fast as possible and staying out of the rural mountains at places like this area. We're the good guys, but you don't want to draw attention to yourself if it can be avoided.

Others can point out safe harbors to stay, if need be, in the State, heading south after Zihua. Just a heads ups for all to see & understand.
I was headed to P. Escondido several years ago and was tempted to take this Ayutla route to the coast from Chilpancingo. When I inquired about it I was strongly discouraged from taking it. "Muy lejos, y falta de vigilancia" they said. I took their word for it. Guerrero state has always been a bit sketchy up in the remote mountains. Sounds like a good place to avoid.
