I was trying not to piss on 150ron's parade too much. I have been assuming ever since this exhaust was fitted that he would also be doing the cams, carb and BB as money permits.
You're right though... FCR + 3x3 with stock cams and exhaust is worth about twice the gain of a jetted BSR + 3x3 so it is clear that the stock engine is initially carb limited. There is a night and day difference in response. An appropriately sized and tuned pipe will help a little... but at the end of the day it is about the full combination of parts.
FWIW, the MRD is too much for my strokers which are running low to mid 50's... Bearing in mind that I have been tuning for 6k torque and 8k power peaks (so not a race engine - MRD is a race pipe) I've achieved better all round results with longer tapers and a smaller final pipe diameter.
