The one issue, or compromise, with the Sherco and Ossa I read about other than its 2T non street legal creds, is that its the same gearbox, or very close to the trials bike, which means basically it a trials bike with a high seat and longer suspension. The shifter is a mile away with tiny gaps between 1st - 4th and huge gap to 5th-6th.
I haven't ridden either, but as a trials bike owner, it looks like theres 2 niche markets here. The Sherco / Ossa as a long range trials bike (for the guys who want to strap a seat and more fuel on a trials bike, or in this case I think the seat comes off to make it more trials worthy) and the KTM for its easy trail/dual sporting usefulness.
Haven't read anything about what KTM did with their tranny but the shifter is in the 'normal' location.
2008 GasGas TXT250, 2009 Aprilia Shiver, 1974 Montesa Cota 247, 1969 CL350 restoration in progress)
Fairly recent gone and missed: 1999 VFR800, 2002 640 Adventure, 2006 GasGas EC300
Old history: a mixed of about 30 other dual sport, street, MX and trials
