I greatly disliked the rear brake light switch mount that was on my 84 XR that has an old Baja Designs dual sport kit.
So, I fabricated a better mount out of angle aluminum. No frame mods on my XR5 as there were already holes in that cross brace piece to bolt the switch mount to.
