What I think I am hearing with the cam chain tensioner is that the oil is not draining back down out of the tensioner assembly but ... I am not certain of that .......
I am blessed living in South East USA and don't get much really cold weather.

If you hadn't seen the announcement BMW is now recommending 15W-50 synthetic blend oil for the "twins":
