The biggest changes in the '08 and newer bikes are a larger big end bearing in the crank, revised cam bearings and bosses and higher output oil pump. These mods were originally developed for the XBRR race program to improve engine durability in race apps and were adopted for production motors in '08.

Also, on the '08 and newer bikes, changes were made to rake angle and triple clamps to allow a tighter turning radius while still maintaining a 4.8" trail dimension. 4.8" of trail is pretty generous and makes for very sure footed handling. If not as quick steering as the XB Lightnings and Firebolts, the XB12X Ulysses is still an extremely sharp handling motorcycle. One of it's more endearing traits, imho.
