Good question! First off the Rocky Mountains are 32-35 liters and the Expeditions are 19-22 liters per side. Also the Rocky Mountains are made from a proprietary vinyl backed ballistic material which is really strong and 100% waterproof. You are correct they do mount the same and function the same for the most part...biggest difference is the size
