I've been riding my newly rebuilt XL a bit over the last week or so, as the weather has been a bit nicer around here.

One thing I've noticed is a fair bit of "coughing", or extremely short intervals of power loss, frequently during cruising at a constant speed/engine RPM. Usually stops happening if I open the throttle, although it sometimes continues to happen during the very first bit of throttle opening.

I am thinking this may be a result of too-lean jetting. Does that make sense? The carbs were thoroughly cleaned as part of the rebuild, so I don't think it's a result of general carb dirtiness or clogged orifices.
