Press Release #0 (eve of rally start) - Team If You See Kay Wines / Rally Management Services #504

The whole If You See Kay Wines sponsored US rally team were finally reunited early this morning (Friday March 8th) at the rally HQ - Hotel Sahara in Douz, Tunisia.

Rally Management Services (RMS) team manager Dave Peckham who had coordinated the initial shipping of the racebikes from the US via the UK, and chief mechanic Colin Pratt had travelled down through Europe with the bikes earlier in the week by road, while the riders themselves had flown in from the US and Europe during the preceding week.

The majority of this final preparation day was spent ensuring the bikes were running well and mechanically sound, and had the necessary safety and navigation equipment fitted to pass the scrutineering inspection.

While all the bikes passed the fitness test with no concerns, unfortunately it seems the same cannot be said of several of the team members - Jean-Luc Solans is suffering a prolonged recovery from leg surgery, Bart Combs is nursing a recently broken collar bone, while Mike Krynock is currently suffering from pneumonia. However, all three are optimistic they will be well enough to start the rally tomorrow morning [Saturday March 9th] and can continue for the duration of the seven competitive days.

With over two-hundred vehicles taking part in this 13th edition of the Tuareg Rally, the Tunisian edge of the Sahara desert promises to deliver a significant challenge to even the most experienced riders and drivers. The racers will immediately be faced with a sea of soft sand dunes to navigate during the first day, followed by a series of long and often arduous special stages as they alternate between the searing heat of the desert and the unforgiving rocky terrain of the surrounding mountain ranges.

The US team of course relish the opportunity to be racing through the dramatic and unfamiliar terrain found in North Africa, and would like to thank their team sponsor If You See Kay Wines for making their participation possible in this year's event.

We are delighted to be able to provide you with daily updates that will include a summary of each stage together with the team's rider results during the rally.
