My friend's failed on his 2008 GS while riding. What happens is a straight steel line makes a 90 degree elbow to a fitting. Brake fluid heating and cooling causes the line to slightly expand and contract (lengthen/shorten) which stresses it at the fitting causing it to crack there.
I was looking at the new lines which are the recall kit and the somewhat straight line has two 90 degree bends, the short one has a 90 and two almost 180 degree bends. I wonder about all this...maybe the lines are a little more generous on length so they can flex a bit.
