"Checked in" is getting a time on your time card. Talking to the volunteers, asking them the time, seeing them, shaking their hand... none of that is "checked in".

I've always been in sight if the start prior to my start time, then rolled up within the 30 minute window(transit time + 30 minutes). Is it different this year?
All the differences and changes in for this year are listed in red in the rule book. So the best thing to do if you were there last year is skim through and look for red. :)
