Ditto on what Questor said re: plates. Nothing special needed in 2010 & 2011 when we did TAT. Only in CO do they have an off-road sticker, but only needed if you are registered in CO.

Don't remember any problems with gas on TAT. If you have a 200 mile tank range you should be fine.

Tires: Good choice. I ran a set of Dunlop 606's the entire way. Many swap in Mohab (Yamaha Dealer is one good place).

You might consider a"Spot" or "In-Reach" device as cell coverage is sparse in areas. In-Reach is blue tooth so you can Text to anyone, and get a response where there is no cell coverage, plus all the regular Spot features.
