I disagree. It could have just been a lot of cosmetic damage, such as scratched/dented tank, broken plastics, etc that added up to more damage the the value of the bike. I had a salvaged F650 Dakar that had been dumped on gravel causing all kinds of damage and the PO's insurance totalled it. I got it at a sweet deal and rode it to Alaska. It was one of the most dependable bikes I ever had.
Two dinged wheels, the tank, plastics, luggage, and some handlebar bits totalled out my Tiger. That tank alone was something crazy like $1,500-$2000.
