I had a salvaged F650 Dakar that had been dumped on gravel causing all kinds of damage and the PO's insurance totalled it. I got it at a sweet deal and rode it to Alaska. It was one of the most dependable bikes I ever had.

You may get lucky and get one with just cosmetic damage but being unlucky in this case may get you dead. Feel free to roll the dice as your risk tolerance allows. Seems dumb to me. Save for another year and just find a sweet deal on a undamaged machine on CL. Isn't that what this thread is all about anyway?
