As Sean says, you should be fine with what you are talking about doing, however worth noting that it's the corrugations that fatigue the alloy subframes when they are loaded up. I've done the Cape many times on 650R and never had a drama, in saying that, I've never taken a load up with me on the bike, and Cape York is bad for corrugations on the main Development Rd.

Have carried 60L fuel & water plus all camping gear etc with stock subframe over the Simpson a few times and had no dramas, but if your suspension isn't set up right doing that sort of thing you're likely to have breakages.
