Relay for Life Bridge Ride Report

I always start with the why? So here I go... every year I try to pay some non Catholic penance and you will need a few drinks in me for a back story. My way of giving back is participating in a charity event to raise money. Map of the route for the ride... Hats off to Scott the planner, coordinator, and ride leader. Via my SPOT - here was the route.

Here was the charity Poster - Scott sent me.

For the lurkers asleep at the wheel this is what the hype is all about. again this year my company is leading a Bridge Ride for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. It's a motorcycle tour through the countryside around Fredericksburg VA, designed to go over or under as many bridges as possible. The $$ come from the riders either donating or collecting pledges for each bridge (PER BRIDGE=PB) we cross. ALL proceeds go to our Company Relay for Life team. The 2013 Bridge Ride is the afternoon of Thursday 9 May, so now is the time to sign up to ride, to pledge, or to donate. I was blessed enough to have many giving riders on here who pledged some big numbers and then had others send me PMs and Posts wanting to donate.

Yup I took my other big girl... or should I say my first girl with 2 wheels in the garage... and what is up with the snowmobile in the above picture? Another back-story.

I left for the bridge... I didn't count this one or the others getting to the start point.

We had nine bikes and 10 riders... I was in the back of the pack.

The first hour of the ride I didn't take many pictures because I was multi tasking via blue-tooth while dodging cagers in Downtown Fredericksburg. Do you know how difficult it is to talk with your hands while on two wheels... I've been doing it for so long, only the onlookers are scared but just another day. So we did much of the below...

And move of the below...

Then we got to see some of the more scenic part of the outer Fredericksburg area

More stop and turn and bridge and repeat

As you can see we worked our way all over the city.

Some Map routes.

After an hour of riding we made our way to one of the many Civil War parks in the area for a stretch.

Got a warm greeting...

Then I was walking and talking... still on conference call but I got off some pics of the site.

Then was back on the road for some more rural riding... here is the route

Then back on the road... and finally off the phone.

Then we stopped for the last time... and I had to show my BWDR shirt (part of the pledge )

Last part of the route...

... and more bridges

More fun than... Click pic for Video

Ended the same way we started... with all riders and 77 bridges complete. If anyone wants the GPX file... let me know. I was graciously offered beer and pizza at Scott's place. After WAWA for some supplies... back home.

Stats for the day was 236.6 miles.

Entire route

Thanks for all the support; riding with some very charitable people is very rewarding and it was an honor to represent the SMIBs on this occasion. Oh and all the riders got a sticker
