Batta proposed that Max would be hired as a test rider/ PR draw. There would have been 11 races where the team would stay at the track an extra day and various journos/VIPs/High rollers invited. Biaggi would get a chance to ride the bike hard, give feedback and schmooze with the peeps. Biaggi would already be on scene in his capacity as a commentator for Italian TV. Gobmier reportedly didn't respond to this proposal for nearly 3 weeks.
Now, you might be asking yourself, "Self, why isn't Biaggi doing something like this for Aprilia?" Word is that Max didn't retire so much as Aprilia couldn't/wouldn't meet his salary demands, saying they wouldn't have enough money to hire a competitive 2nd rider. While we're on the subject, Leon Camier had a recent interview where he said that when he started doing well on the RSV4, his bikes mysteriously lost some speed. Hmmm...
