Catalan (or Valencian) is not a regional dialect, BTW. It's a separate language that developed directly from Vulgar Latin and shares more vocabulary with Italian, French and Arabic combined than with Spanish.
Hopefully you will get to hear one of the three regional dialects of Basque spoken during your travels. The Basque language is very intriguing in that it may be the sole surviving indigenous language of Europe having
developed prior to the Indo-European languages migrating west into continental Europe. As such Basque is neither a Latin or Romance language and is the only European language classified this way today.
