Solar Pillar and Hagglund training

Had a solar pillar this afternoon. The sun was setting at around 14.30h. I captured these couple of pictures as I heading out to set up a Hagglund training course on the sea ice out front of the station. Our sea ice has only been opened for quads so far because it was not thick enough for anything heavier. The ice is now good for use with Hagglunds. Huggs are used for major works or traverses. Haggs are a 4 tracked center steer all train vehicle that float. I was setting up the training course. It is part of the diesel mechanics job to train personal in the us of vehicles on station, plus we will run them through how to recover a Hagg that has gone through the ice. I went through 4 months training and courses back in Australia before I left for Antarctica.

I grabbed the help of one of our sparkies to help out. Here is Simon drilling ice for the marker polls.

Looking back up to our station.
