One more bit of info on the whole "the tires are ruining F1" panic. Red Bull's average finish position through 5 races this season is identical to last season (5th), even with Webers DNF at China this year. Mercedes is actually better (average of 13th last season and 9th this). Hamilton averaged a 5th place through 5 races last year, and 6th this year. Vettel was averaging 5th through 5 races in 2012 and his average this year is 3rd.
Red Bull, Ferarri, Lotus and Mercedes ALL have more constructors' points through 5 races this season than at this point last season. McLaren is the only big loser among the top teams from last year, replaced by Force India this season.
I already posted earlier about the data showning winning lap times essentially unchanged from last season.
So what exactly are Red Bull's and Mercedes' complaints about the tires? Why is everyone (except Ferarri, Lotus and Force India) in a tizzy about the tires?
