I see no problem with the aluminum shaft on the ram ball. It is short and should be pretty hard to break. I would be glad for it to break instead of the expensive clutch and brake perches.

I installed my balls using a little threadlock and tightened them using the ram arm to grab ahold of them. I have had no loosening of the balls since.
