we may be onto something here...

I did notice that once the cover had contacted the o-ring the bolts took several complete turns, and felt "mushy" to me. I thought I had very carefully selected the correct of the two o-rings, but I too had them both in the same bag with no markings.

Trying to find the oil pump cover o-ring specs:

11 22 1 337 099 - 59X3MM fly wheel
11 41 1 335 895 - ??X?MM oil pump cover


I'll add this to my list of theories, but I'm almost sure this is going to be my problem. I just hope I did no damage the engine by riding it when I should not have

If this is your problem, there would be extra side clearance on the pump rotor and low pressure.
