One step forward , one step back

Set up the barrel



Removed the outer valve springs



Fitted the head bolts



Then the head



Rocker boxes on & degree wheel set to check piston to valve clearances



Checked at TDC , - 10 & + 10 degrees all good ,80 to 120 thou which is what I was told to get, You set the tappets to running clearance then wind them in till till the valve hits the piston, one turn is 40 thou, high tech marker for the degree wheel but it works



Stripped it all back down to fit the rings & start on the final build.



Oil rings fit sweet as

2 x top rings will not fit . Looks like the rings are approx 0.2 mm too thick to fit the piston ring grooves.

Yet another email to Mr MAP

Will go to the local engine reco man who does a fair bit of performance work & Johnson Rings tomorrow to see if I machine the pistons or take my 9" grinder to the rings

If I did not laugh I'd throw something.

In frustration I went & put down my first batch of home brew, this garage is no longer dry. :
